Deku Smash Burger

A classic. The Deku Smash Burger is done best on a cast iron skillet if you have one and it is paired with simple ingredients to make it taste like childhood.

Ingredients

  • Burger Bun
  • 6oz Ground Beef
  • 1/4 White Onion, small dice
  • 2oz Shredded Cheddar or 2 Slices American Cheese
  • 2 Leaves Ice Berg Lettuce, Cleaned
  • 1ea Medium Tomato, 1/4 Sliced Rounds
  • 1 Kosher Pickle Spear
  • 1T Ketchup
  • 1T Mayonnaise
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • 1T Oil

Instructions

  1. Form the ground beef into two separate 3oz balls, set aside.
  2. To make the sauce combine ketchup and mayonnaise in a small bowl and stir together. Dice the pickle spear into very small pieces, about half the size of a pea. Add the diced pickle to the ketchup and mayonnaise mixture. Stir to combine and set aside.
  3. Toast the bun in a large saute pan and set aside.
  4. In the same large saute pan add the oil and bring to a medium heat. Add the onions along with a pinch of salt and saute for 5-6 minutes or until they are tender, making sure to constantly stir to prevent the onions from burning.
  5. Remove the onions from the pan and place the two beef balls into the pan. Press them down with a spatula until the are about 1/4 Inch thick. Cook on one side for 2-3 minutes then flip the burgers. Once you flip, immediately place the cheese on top of each burger patty so it melts while the burger cooks.
  6. While the burger cooks smear some of your sauce on the bottom bun, followed by the lettuce and tomato, remove the burgers from the pan and place them on next, then add the onions followed by more sauce and the top bun. Enjoy!
